The story
Biography
A Toronto-based Ecuadorian DJ and producer fusing Afro House, Latin House and Afro Tech into an immersive sonic experience.
The sound
Azul is a Toronto-based DJ and producer, born in Ecuador and carrying its rhythms into every set. Tribal percussion, emotional melodies and latin roots, built for the dancefloor. That’s the sound Azul has been shaping since first stepping behind the decks in 2019, across Afro House, Latin House and Afro Tech.
In the studio, the debut single “Jamuri” (Music.Art.Ppl, 2024) was featured on Mapped Out Radio on CKCU 93.1 FM. Next came “HEAT UP” with CELESTAI and differentHUMAN on Playces Records. Still to come: “Que Rico” with Asif, a record driven by Latin percussion and a sensual female vocal, and “Papi” featuring LUCIANA.
The story
Azul moved to Canada in 2018 and studied at the University of Ottawa, graduating in 2023. Early sets went from Ottawa’s dancefloors to clubs in Bangkok and Melbourne. Toronto soon became home, and the city’s Afro House scene became Azul’s school.
Every set is built around reading the room, creating energy and understanding the role Azul plays within the night. It’s the same approach behind the residency at Paros Yorkville. Off the decks, Azul is part of Tribe, an Afro House collective in Ottawa, playing quarterly events and creating opportunities for other Afro House DJs. New DJs also learn the craft at Azul’s own DJ academy.
The stages
One of the best sets of Azul’s life came supporting Silver Panda, first at Oria After Dark in 2024 and again at Story Toronto in 2025. Along the way, Azul has been direct support for Double Touch at Mystical Open Air, made a Montreal debut with Lukas & Frank and then closed for them in Toronto, and supported CRi at Departure Festival. Azul has also shared line-ups with Aaron Sevilla, Joezi, Djuma Soundsystem, Marino Canal, Omnya and Kashovski. Beyond Canada, Azul has played Amsterdam Dance Event (the Modern Agenda showcase, 2024) and Varadero, Cuba.
With gratitude to everyone who’s been there since day one, Azul has one mission: building cultural bridges through sound, one dancefloor at a time.
“I like to build my sets around reading the room, creating energy, and understanding the role I’m playing within the night.”
